What I'm Reading (1)

Everything I Was by Corinne Demas

"My walls were stripped, and all that was left in the room was a pile of boxes and my mattress propped against the wall."

So begins Irene's journey from an Upper West Side penthouse to—well, she's not entirely sure where. Irene's investment banker father is "downsized" when his company merges with another. When he can't find work, her family's lifestyle—and her socialite mother's spending—quickly catches up with them. Eventually, they're forced to move in with Irene's grandfather in the big family farmhouse upstate. But what begins as the most disastrous summer of her life takes a surprising turn when she meets a most remarkable family.

I'm not very far into the book, but it seems good so far.  I'm eager to see how things will turn out for Irene.

What I'm Reading

Carved in Bone: A Body Farm Novel by Jefferson Bass

So far, I'm really enjoying this book. It's about a forensic anthropologist helping with the investigation of a murdered woman. The investigation takes him into a small, rural town that is inhabited by people who will do whatever they have to in order to defend themselves and their kin. I'm fascinated by the field of forensic anthropology. I've found that this book isn't so technical that I can't understand it, but it still has enough science to make me feel like I'm learning something. I'm also eager to find out what happened to this woman.

The Migraine Brain by Carolyn Bernstein and Elaine McArdle

This is a book that I randomly picked up in Walgreen's one day. I've suffered from chronic miraines for a little over 9 years. It took me forever to finally find the right combination of medications to curb my painful migraine episodes. As a newlywed, I spoke to my neurologist about how my medications will play into trying to have a baby when my husband and I are ready. I will still be able to take my magnesium supplement but will have to stop my other medication. This makes me nervous. I'm not sure I'll be able to manage being off my medication and having the migraines like before. Finding this book, though, has helped with my determination to find ways to manage my migraines without medications. I'm only 24, and I really don't want to spend the rest of my life popping pills every day to keep from feeling like someone has a jackhammer in my head. I'm not very far into the book, but it has already given me some valuable informatio and useful suggestions. In fact, I'm starting my headache diary again today. I kept one for awhile until I got my migraines under control. Then I stopped. I figured it would be a good idea to track them again, learning as much as I can about my migraine brain.

What I'm Reading (3)

Last week, I tried reading multiple books instead of just one like I usually do. I found that I do like having an audiobook for my car and a regular book for home, work, etc. But I don't like having to choose which book to keep reading. It made me feel like I wasn't getting anywhere. So, I've decided to stick to reading one book at a time.

Right now, I'm reading Living Dead in Dallas (Sookie #2) by Charlaine Harris. I've seen the first 2 seasons of True Blood and have been watching the current season. I've been eager to read the rest of the Sookie books. Obviously, there are some major differences between the books and the show, but I love discovering them. My husband got annoyed with me when we watched the first season of True Blood. I had already read the first Sookie book and kept telling him about how the book was different from the show. He also hated that I had a general idea of what would happen.

I'm hoping to finish Living Dead in Dallas tonight, so I can start my next book. Here's what's coming up next for me:

The Forest of Hands and Teeth

What I'm Reading (2)

I don't usually read more than one book at a time, but I'm making an exception this time around. Now that I have a Nook, I'm trying to read and get rid of a lot of my paperback/hardcover books. My Nook is new, and I found myself reading most of the books I already had rather than playing with my fantastic new toy. So, I decided to read both. I'm going to keep a regular book in my purse/bag for when I'm slow at work or waiting somewhere. My Nook is for reading at home. It's still too new for me to be comfortable just toting it around with me all the time. Here's what I'm reading now:

Paperback

Living Dead in Dallas (Sookie Stackhouse Series) by Charlaine Harris

I read the first book in the series and have watched the first two seasons of True Blood. I'm addicted through and through. I saw the second season before reading this book, and I've already found some differences between the show and book. I'm eager to see what the rest of the book holds in store and how it compares to the show.

Nook

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

I've seen lots of people on Twitter and in several blogs posting about the awesomesauce that is this series by Maggie Stiefvater. I decided to check it out. I'm about halfway through Shiver, and I'm liking it. I can't say I'm crazy about it or that it's been keeping me up late, but I'm enjoying it.

Audio

Pretty in Plaid by Jennifer Lancaster

I've also been listening to Pretty in Plaid by Jennifer Lancaster.  It's the second book by her that I've read, and so far I like it.  I'm only about halfway through it.

What I'm Reading (1)

The book I'm currently reading is A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb.  It's been on my TBR list for awhile and on my PBS wishlist for almost as long.  I finally got an email saying it was available and jumped at the opportunity to get it.  Right now, I'm only about 20 pages in.  So far, I find the book rather interesting but just haven't had a lot of time to read.  I have a personal challenge to read 75 books in 2010, and this book is #13 or #14 for the year (depending on when I finish).

I really like audiobooks.  I don't always find time to sit down and read books, but I'm in my car just about every day.  A few nights a week, I would drive to and from classes (90 minutes roundtrip).  Right now, I'm listening to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith.  I love it!  Some may think it's far-fetched.  I mean, come on.  Abe Lincoln fighting vampires?  I have found that the author has done such a good job of tying facts into the fiction, though, that at times I actually find myself thinking Abe was hunting vamps.  And, this fictional story of him has made me interested in reading a biography about him.  This book will be #13 or #14 for the year (again depending on when I finish).
